No but members of the 5th New York are encouraged to join the Brigade of the American Revolution. If you are a member of the BAR through membership in another unit, you do not have to pay the BAR dues twice. Please indicate to which unit these dues are paid.

The reason for this membership requirement is that BAR members are covered by BAR insurance and BAR insurance is required to participate in BAR events. We participate in a couple of BAR (Brigade of the American Revolution) events each year and only members of the 5th NY who have also paid their BAR membership can attend. Typically less than 10% of our events are BAR events.

Your membership with the 5th New York Regiment includes insurance that covers you for all of our events except for BAR events. BAR events are open only to members that have also paid for BAR membership. BAR events historically make up less than 10% of our events. Please consult our our event schedule for a list of events. All BAR events will clearly state that it is a BAR event.

Absolutly. This hobby is not only family freindly, it is enriching, entertaining, educational and fun for the whole family.

The minimum age to be a Man-At-Arms (MAA) is 16; to be a musician 12; no age requirement for civilian membership. Minors may join under the supervision of a parent or guardian attending an event with the child.

Access to unlimited fun, commoradery and so much more.

Membership in the 5th NY also entitles you to:

Attend all 5th NY events.

Membership in the Fort Montgomery Battlesite Association.

Membership in the Continental Line.

Insurance for all 5th NY events, except BAR events which require BAR membership.

Reimbursement (FREE) Annual 18 century lunch. This is worth more than dues :)

Access to purchase black powder.

Access to loaner equipment.

Did we mention the unlimited fun...

Yes, but all of the members personally own all of their own gear in their kits. The acquisition of your kit is half the fun as you learn what items are historically accurate. We will help you make good choices versus buying gear that does not accurately reflect the time period. The 5th NY does own extra equipment that you can borrow as your kit grows.
