140th George Washington Birthday Ball
February 24 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
This is a special event that the 5th NY had the honor to attend a couple years ago. I was there and highly recommend the event for anyone that wants to honor our beloved General at a high society dinner in NYC.
Hosted by the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, this event celebrates George Washington’s birthday as well as raising support for Fraunces Tavern Museum. All proceeds from this event will directly go to improve and increase the Museum’s education and public programming.
We need three, and only three men at arms in uniform for this event. The three can come in 5th ny uniform and with musket- no powder needed. They would like it if we could stand guard until all attendees are received – about 20-30min. And than we should mingle with guests and welcome to drink.
Before the 8:pm dinner they would like us to be part of a precession along with soldiers from other time periods to honor a current US military officer before the dinner.
Just afterward we are to join in the dinner as payment for coming to the event. We am trying to negotiate parking costs but that is not certain and should be considered a bonus. The dinner and drink are excellent as well as the unique opportunity to shoulder arms in NYC (indoors).
Muskets should not be carried openly in the street. Wrap it in a cover, remove your flint and bring no powder. Space is limited to 3 and a wait list is created just in case any of the first three can not make it.
